The Allen Fire Department was a combination paid/volunteer department that served a city population of 21,000. The career firefighters realized the need to protect their jobs, increase wages, and ensure the department provided adequate equipment. All 27 career fire department members signed the original charter.
The association began working with department administration and City Hall immediately to fulfill its mission. They worked diligently with the Fire Chief to find an amicable solution and a city ordinance was passed to ensure the rights of the firefighters. Today, there are more than eighty members of Local 3453. The AFFA is proud to serve its members, the 90,000 plus citizens of Allen, and all visitors to the city.
